Tests done, Check... Onto Consult and Gameplan

We had our consult with Dr. Amols. He had just joined the practice and works mostly out of the Chandler office. He went over all of the tests we have had done (FSH blood work, Day 3 Ultrasound and HSG test to check for tube blockage. Everything looks good therefore we fall into the 10% of “unexplained infertility “. He went over our options and explained them in detail:

1: Clomid (medication to release more eggs) and IUI (implanting sperm into my uterus)

8-12 % pregnancy rate and 8-10% chance of multiples

2. Clomid, IUI, 1 gonadotropin injection (releasing hormone)

12-18 % pregnancy rate and 20-25% chance of multiples

*If I overproduce eggs, they have to cancel the process. You can’t have over 5 eggs released.

3. Clomid, IUI, 12 gonadotropin injections (releasing hormone)

18-22% pregnancy rate and 20­-25% chance of multiples

*Very expensive and same issue with overproducing

4. In Vitro Fertilization

50-60% chance of getting pregnant

*Most expensive however they other money back guarantee if you don’t get pregnant

We are debating between option 1 and 2. He said 90% of people get pregnant after 3 cycles of option 1. However, the chances of pregnancy are higher with options 2-4.

Since there is no underlying medical condition enabling us from getting pregnant, we aren’t really candidates for In Vitro. Although, he said he would support any of these 4 options. If we go through with a different option and it fails, then we would be an In Vitro candidate.

Of course a multiple pregnancy would be considered a high risk pregnancy. So, that makes it sort of difficult to find what is best for us.

As of right now, we are most likely going to do option 1 for 1 cycle. If it doesn’t work, we will most to option 2 for a few cycles. If that doesn’t work, then we discuss the next step.

Of course option 1 is the cheapest. However, multiple attempts will add up. I’m just worried it will add up and we should have just gone with In Vitro to begin with.

I guess time will tell. Option 1 will begin in a few days putting the IUI around September 23^rd. So, we shall see!!!
